The Eaton Cutler-Hammer MDL2800 Molded Case Circuit Breaker with a thermal-magnetic trip unit is a multipurpose circuit breaker, in the Frame M series of completely assembled breakers with thermal-magnetic trip units that are used for circuit protection in a variety of applications. This circuit has fixed thermal and adjustable magnetic trip elements which provide instantaneous trip action, and it is supplied with standard load and line side copper/aluminum pressure terminals for simple wiring. The MDL2800, unlike breakers with electronic trip units, is DC and AC rated with 600 Volts AC or 250 Volt DC maximum voltages across its terminals, and it has a nominal current rating of 800 Amps. It also has an interrupting rating of 50 kAIC at 480 Volt AC, and it comes with a 2-pole system that is suitable for 1-phase use.
The MDL2800’s adjustable thermal and magnetic trip units provide fast-acting trip action by using a load-heated bimetal strip and an electromagnet connected in series with the line load, and its magnetic trip is field adjustable to up to 10 times the continuous current rating. It has a quick make/break operating mechanism, which indicates the breaker’s position (tripped, on, or off), and it prevents the contacts from closing in the event of abnormal current conditions. The MDL2800 is designed to operate at a temperature limit of up to 40 degrees Celsius without de-rating, and it must be recalibrated for use at higher ambient temperatures. The MDL2800 is UL, CSA, IEC, and CE certified, and it has an average weight of 26.5 pounds, and with total shipping dimensions of 8.25 x 16.0 x 4.06 inches (width x height x depth).
