The Westinghouse/Cutler-Hammer/Eaton HLD3450 is a complete circuit breaker with an amperage rating of 450 Amps. The breaker is used to provide protection for circuits operating from a 3-phase power source. This is made possible by the HLD3450 having 3 poles. The circuit breaker features aluminum line and load terminals and an interchangeable trip unit which uses a combination of thermal and magnetic aspects to guard a circuit against current spikes and other circuit malfunctions. The HLD3450 accommodates an optional shunt trip and an optional undervoltage release mechanism. The Cutler-Hammer HLD3450 molded case circuit breaker does not provide protection for the neutral pole. The circuit breaker is part of the Series C circuit breakers with an L Frame type manufactured by the Westinghouse/Cutler-Hammer/Eaton Corporation.
The circuit breaker has a high interrupting capacity of 100 kiloamps interrupt capacity at 240 Volts AC. The HLD3450 has line and load lug terminals. When installing the circuit breaker, careful comparisons must be made between the nameplate data and the equipment/system requirements to ascertain if it is the right breaker for the system. When mounting the circuit breaker, the tightening screws should not exceed a torque of 3 N-m. To avoid injury to the personnel conducting the installation and to avoid damage to other devices in the system, the power should be locked out and only turned on when all mounting procedures have been followed and confirmed. Since the HLD3450 use a molded frame, it should be frequently monitored for any signs of overheating and for a non-tripping trip mechanism.
