The Eaton KDB3175 is a KDB type of 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB). This is an overcurrent protection device that is reusable. This means that after breaking the circuit (trip action), the breaker can be reset to protect the electric circuits again. This is the product from Eaton’s C Series of MCCBs, and among these circuit breakers, the KDB3175, with its 175 Amps rating, is classified as a middle-sized circuit breaker. This device uses heating and magnetic effects to detect excessive currents and short-circuits. This is why it belongs to the thermal-magnetic class of molded case circuit breakers. When it senses a fault, it will operate the opening mechanism almost instantly.
The module is designed to work with voltages of up to 600 Volts AC and 250 Volts DC. If users apply the KDB3175 properly according to its voltage and current ratings, it will be able to open the circuit automatically on a predetermined current value without damaging itself. The closure of contacts on the device are conducted by non-automatic means. The operators must reset the circuit breaker manually. The Eaton Cutler-Hammer KDB3175 is shipped with the approximate weight of 11.5 pounds (5.22 kilograms). It is a compact MCCB that fits into 140 millimeters x 257 millimeters x 104 millimeters (5.5 inches x 10.13 inches x 4.1 inches) of space. Its housing is made of thermoset composite resins which ARE a molded insulating material tested to serve as mechanical protection to the device and to serve as an insulator. The housing is bolted in an electrical cabinet and the device is hard-wired to complete the installation.
