The HKD3400 is a molded case circuit breaker manufactured by the Cutler-Hammer Division of the Eaton Corporation. This is a “C” Series device, with three-poles and a current rating of 400 Amps. It is designed to provide circuit protection for low voltage distribution systems. The HKD3400 has a high interrupting capacity of 65 kAIC at 480 Volts AC. This module is factory-assembled and it consists of a frame, trip unit, and terminals. Note that this circuit breaker’s individual components (frame, trip unit, and terminals) are available as individual components too. The magnetic trip of the device is adjustable. The users can set it to 5 to 10 times the standard continuous current rating. It also has an excessive temperature trip.
The HKD3400 is used to open and close a circuit. The closing will be done by operators when they want to power up the equipment installed behind the circuit breaker. The opening will happen automatically on a predetermined overload of current. In this way, this device protects personnel from injury and protects the equipment from electrical overcurrent. The HKD3400 will protect connected machines, such as motors and pumps, against short circuits. The Eaton HKD3400 is a K-Frame sized molded case circuit breaker with a housing that has dimensions of 5.50 inches (149.7 millimeters) x 10.13 inches (257.3 millimeters) x 4.10 inches (104.1 millimeters). The weight of the complete module is estimated at 11.5 pounds (5.2 kilograms). The device is UL-listed and it complies with many standards, such as the Australian AS 2184, IEC 60947-2, and the SEV 157-1. UL-listed calibrations are conducted at ambient temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius.
