The Eaton Cutler-Hammer JT3100T is a trip unit for J-frame molded case circuit breakers. The nominal current rating of the device is 100 Amps. This nominal current rating stands for the maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius and the 50 to 60 Hertz frequency for which the module is calibrated. At other temperatures and frequencies, the users must know that derating must be applied. The JT3100T is integrated into circuit breakers with 3 poles. This device provides thermal and magnetic trip actions. The magnetic trip is conducted when there is a short in the electric circuit. For calibration purposes, a controlled ramp test method is used. The current flow is increased linearly in time and the trip current value is recorded. This type of calibration should be done in a surrounding that is free of any magnetic influence. In electric cabinets, slight reductions (not more than 10%) in the actual pick-up values might be recorded for devices mounted on steel surfaces.
The Eaton Cutler-Hammer JT3100T can be part of many J-frame MCCBs, especially the ones that start with the JD, HJD, HJDDC, and the JDC designations. There are also many types of internal accessories that the users can use to upgrade this trip unit. For example, the users can use alarm/lockout switches, auxiliary switches, shunt trips, and undervoltage mechanisms. On the front side of the device, there is the push-to-trip button. The users can press this button with a small screwdriver whenever they want to check the manual tripping mechanism of the unit. The Eaton Cutler-Hammer JT3100T is intended to be connected to a maximum voltage of 600 Volts AC. It is delivered in a rugged plastic housing for protection.
