The Cutler-Hammer/Eaton GHB2040 is a series C molded case circuit breaker. The GHB2040 is part of the GHB family of circuit breakers from Eaton. The GHB2040 uses the bolt-on mounting feature and can be mounted on either a DIN rail or a panel. The tripping current for the circuit breaker is rated at 40 amperes and the maximum operating voltage is set at 480 Volts AC. The GHB2040 accommodates a DC voltage to a maximum of 250 Volts DC. The circuit breaker has two poles. The AC interrupt rating for the GHB2040 stands at 14,000 AIC.
The circuit breaker has a G-frame type. Breakers with this frame type, including the GHB2040, can be used for reverse feed use and are HACR rated. Additionally, the GHB2040, as with other molded case circuit breakers, is UL 489 listed, conforms to the Canadian (C22.2 no 5), Australian (AS 2184), British (BS 4752 part 1), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC 60947-2), among other major standards. The tripping mechanism for the GHB2040 uses a fixed thermal-magnetic trip. In the event of a trip, the tripping mechanism must be allowed to scale back to the required temperature before a reset can successfully take place. Although the GHB2040 can function without maintenance, it requires regular inspection to ensure that the tripping mechanism is functioning as required and the terminals are not clogged with corrosive substances including dust and grease. When inspecting the GHB2040 a trip should be manually induced. A molded case circuit breaker like the GHB2040 should be replaced if the case starts showing extreme discolorations, even if it still functions properly.
