The Eaton/Westinghouse/Cutler Hammer HFD2090 is a Series C F-frame molded case circuit breaker. The circuit breaker has a short circuit withstand of 65 kAIC for a single second, implying that in the event of a short circuit, the HFD2090 can break 65 kAIC without damaging itself or damaging the circuit it is protecting. The circuit breaker employs a thermal-magnetic tripping mechanism which is a combination of temperature and current-sensitive devices to sense over-currents. The HFD2090, as defined in the UL 489 standards, undergoes stringent tests on each of its poles. This tests the thermal tripping mechanism at under 200% of its continuous current (90 Amps). The test also checks for how well the HFD2090 responds to overloads and temperature rise.
The Eaton HFD2090 has 2 poles and it is only meant for use in a single-phase powered circuit. The circuit breaker features load side lug terminals and its case is made from a glass polyester material which is water resistant. The rated voltage for the circuit breaker is 600 Volts AC with the ability to protect a circuit with a maximum running voltage of 680 Volts AC. The HFD2090 is sealed at the factory and it contains a non-interchangeable trip unit. The Eaton HFD2090 conforms to standards specified by the Association of German Electrical engineers, Swiss Electro-Technical Association, and the International Electrotechnical Commission. Note that adhering to these standards makes the HFD2090 and other Series C molded case circuit breakers to satisfy most local and international standardization codes.
