The FDB4080 is a Series C molded case circuit breaker with an F frame that is manufactured by Eaton Cutler-Hammer. The maximum current the Series C molded case circuit breakers can process is between 10 and 225 Amps. The FDB4080 is manufactured with four poles, indicating four hot wires being connected to a neutral wire. Thus, when a short circuit occurs on any of the four hot wires, all four wires trip. The four poles of the circuit breaker ensure better protection for industrial electrical equipment because the neutral wire can be connected to the three power supplies to control the current flow. The F-frame molded case circuit breaker has physical dimensions of 5.5 inches x 6 inches x 3.375 inches and it weighs 6 pounds. The UL 489 rates the interrupting current capacity of the FDB4080 circuit breaker at 18,000 kAIC at 240 Volts AC (at 50/60 Hertz frequency), at 14,000 kAIC at 480 Volts AC (at 50/60 Hertz frequency), and at 14,000 kAIC at 600 Volts AC (at 50/60 Hertz frequency).
For the DC counterpart, the FDB4080 offers a protection rating of 10,000 kAIC at 250 Volts DC. The time constant measured for this device is 3 milliseconds minimum at 10 kA and 8 milliseconds minimum at 22 kA. The circuits must be largely non-inductive for the DC power ratings to be applicable. The FDB4080 are thermal magnetic circuit breakers that are sealed with non-interchangeable trip units, in other words, users cannot change the trip settings of their circuit breaker from 80 Amps to 100 Amps by changing the trip unit that is already the default in the breaker. The FDB4080 has a terminal on the load-end only. The maximum continuous current rating of the FDB4080 is 80 degrees Celsius with 14 kAIC capacity at 600 Volts AC maximum and at 250 Volts DC maximum.
