The Cutler-Hammer EDS3175 is a complete molded case circuit breaker. The device has 3 poles and it is appropriate to be used at 240 Volts AC (at 50 to 60 Hertz) or at 125 Volts DC. To protect the electrical circuits, this device will use the thermal magnetic release mechanism. The circuit breaker is sealed at the factory and users cannot change its tripping unit. The Cutler-Hammer EDS3175 passes the UL489 certification, which requires manufacturers to install internal accessories at the factory site. Always check the completeness of the MCCB after unpacking it and look closely for possible damage on the module before mounting it in the system.
The current rating of the MCCB is 175 Amps. This rating is valid, tested, and calibrated for 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit). The interrupting capacity of the EDS3175 is 10 kAIC at 125 Volts DC and 42 kAIC at 240 Volts AC. If users are applying this circuit breaker to protect motor circuitry, then this device should be rated at at least 115% of the full load current rating of the motor it is being applied to. Pulsating loads require special attention to prevent any nuisance tripping of the circuit breaker. The Eaton Cutler-Hammer EDS3175 has a highly-isolated housing with dimensions of 3.4 inches x 6.0 inches x 2.8 inches (86 millimeters x 152 millimeters x 70 millimeters). The weight of the MCCB is 3 pounds (1.4 kilograms). The installation procedure includes attaching the circuit breaker to mounting panels over predrilled holes. The devices should be tightly fixed with mounting screws, washers, and nuts.
