The ED2040 is a thermal-magnetic circuit breaker that belongs to Series C of the Eaton circuit breakers. This breaker has been designed by Eaton Cutler-Hammer in order to provide the best protection to all kinds of circuits, including industrial ones. The Eaton Cutler-Hammer ED2040 thermal-magnetic circuit breaker has been designed with a combination of 2 mechanisms that can assure the quick detection and interruption of abnormal current lines that could cause serious damage to the whole circuit and the equipment attached to it. The Eaton Cutler-Hammer ED2040 thermal-magnetic circuit breaker operates with a voltage line class of 125 Volts DC or 240 Volts AC and a frequency of 50 to 60 Hertz.
The Eaton Cutler-Hammer ED2040 thermal-magnetic circuit breaker has a maximum amperage rating of 40 Amps. This amperage has been previously tested in open air environments. At the moment of calibration, the maximum ambient air temperature for its 100% rating is 40 degrees Celsius. There is the possibility of derating the Eaton Cutler-Hammer ED2040 thermal-magnetic circuit breaker if it is going to be used at a higher ambient air temperature or if the breaker is going to be installed in an enclosure. This occurs because this device is very sensitive to high temperatures and these directly affect its functioning. The most common recommendation is to find an enclosure with a good ventilation method in order to release heat in an efficient way. Once a fault has been detected, it is recommended to clear and correct the fault and start the breaker immediately so it can offer a high level of protection.
