This Eaton Cutler-Hammer product, the D100ED20, is a transistor module. It is used as a 20 I/O expander for the D100 programmable logic controllers. The D100ED20 is a semiconductor device used to amplify the electronic signals and electric power. The D100 programmable controllers are made up from the amalgamation of the controllers and the expanders. They work in harmony to meet the full range of the requirements for small programmable controllers. Expanders such as the D100ED20 are connected to the controller with the help of a prescribed cable size. They are used to provide additional inputs and outputs. In case of the D100ED20, the cable of 30 centimeters is used. This connecting cable is furnished with all expansion units. Not more than two expanders can be used with the controller, and they can be used only until the time the total number of inputs and outputs is not more than the maximum listed for the controller used. This value of input and output is seen as a collective value of both the controller and the expanders.
The D100ED20 is a 24 Volt DC transistor that has an approximately 115 Volt AC power supply. This module can have additional I/O expanders to give a total of 20 I/O, which can be split into 12 maximum inputs and 8 maximum outputs. If an analog module is to be used in the system, it must be connected to the controller before any expanders are added. The analog module, if added, doesn’t affect the I/O count.
