The D100EAA40 device is an expander, which is manufactured the Cutler-Hammer product line of expanders. This expander has a 30-centimeter cable, which connects it to the D100 controller; this module, the D100EA40, has been manufactured as an operative 40 Input/Output Expander. This expansion module can only function with a power supply of 115 Volts AC. This device is also a triac, meaning that it allows a voltage of 115 Volts out. Whenever the D100EAA44 is utilized, it is usually mounted on the enclosure panel of the D100 Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). When certain expanders are used, such as the D100EAA40, the spacing of the units is controlled by the length of its connecting cables. Longer cables are usually used when the controller and expander must be mounted side by side, whereas short cables are commonly used to manage high-speed signals. In this case, the D100EAA40 has a long cable. Always remember to remove all active power when plugging in or unplugging the expander’s cable from the controller. The main function of the D100EAA40 expander is to supply additional outputs and inputs to the D100 series of controllers.
This expander usually helps increase the general purpose input and output (GPIO) lines that are already present in the processor’s system. The maximum number of expanding modules that a controller can take in are two; this is provided that the sum total of inputs and outputs in both the controller and the expander has not exceeded the original number of I/O that is supported for the controller.
